Pumps for emulsion spray tankers

Our pumps have been used on emulsion spray tankers for years (mounted in the tankers with a ramp or lance) for use in laying road surfaces.

They are also used in asphalt plants, both for discharging bitumen (from tankers into the binder tanks) and in the process of manufacturing asphalt (incorporating the bitumen into the mix).

The pumps with heat chamber and sealed with gaskets are the most frequently-used, as they are perfectly suited to working at high temperatures.

Examples of applications

Penetration grade bitumen

Asphalt factory in Gajano

Customer: Repsol | Visit Website

At Repsol’s plant in Gajano, we designed a pumping system to transfer penetration grade bitumen (conventional, modified, etc.) for processing in the different phases of its production (discharging from lorries, transfer to reactors, etc.).

Due to the high viscosity of the bitumen, for this application we chose our BAL C series 600 vane pump with heat chamber, bronze vanes and gaskets suitable for high temperatures (up to 180°C).

3” pumps for a flow rate of 60 m3/h at 5 bar of pressure and actioned by an 11 kW motor. Mounted on a fixed bed and made from cast iron.

The bronze vanes (due to their weight) and the heat chamber (by heating the substance and subsequently reducing its viscosity) facilitate the transfer of penetration grade bitumen.

Asphalt spray tankern

Customer: Micarsa Services | Visit Website

On this occasion our customer, Micarsa, requested our collaboration to design and manufacture the pumping systems that would be incorporated into their asphalt spray tanker and cold emulsion sprayer.

For the lagged tanker. our BAL C series 600 with heat chamber and bronze vanes was chosen.

This tanker incorporates the most advanced technology for spraying bitumen products; its capacity varies between 4,000 and 16,000 litres, the spraying can be done by an automatic ramp or by lance, and it operates with different asphalt binders. All of it complies with the European ADR Regulations.

For the asphalt spray tanker for RD-BIDON drums designed for manual cold spraying by lance and sprayer, our TRIEF ACCP series 300 piston pump with built-in heat chamber was chosen.

In both cases, the sprayer pumps have a lagging system consisting of a chamber for the motor’s exhaust gases to pass through. The system heats up the emulsion, reducing its viscosity and thereby making it easier to pump.

3” pump for the BAL C vane model, and 1” pump for the TRIEF ACCP piston model, both equipped with safety valve and made from iron.
